The Dreams were born in Matt Garrison's garage. The original members
of
the band were Matt on guitar, his sister Jenny on keyboards, Tiffani
Smith on bass, and Tony Wicks
on drums. All of them sang, but Matt did the most. When their friend
Sly Winkle helped them secure
their first gig, they named him manager. Since then, Jenny left for
Italy on a music scholarship and the
rest of the Garrison family moved away from Pacific Coast. The band
kept going by acquiring "bad boy" Jake Sommers on lead guitar, foreign
exchange student
Samantha Woo on vocals, and Sly's
cousin Mark on keyboards.
Also, when Matt moved, they lost their practice space and Sam lost
her room and board. Fortunately, Lorena Costa helped with both,
giving Sam a room and the Dreams her loft. Other bands call
Lorena a "groupie," but she's much more than that.
Most of the time, the Dreams' venue is the local hangout restaurant,
Sharkey's. They got their first break there when Matt's girlfriend
hired them
for her birthday party. Since then, they've played on the pier, at
a wedding,
and even at a ski resort belonging to Lorena's father. But Sharkey's
is
where they are most of the time when they're not at school. They're
there
almost more than they're at home, from the looks of the show.
